These mugs are so simple, you only need a small list of products that you probably have at home anyways. These make a quick, easy & really cheap homemade gift that looks way more intricate then it actually is. This method can be used on a multitude of things, mugs, snack bowls, glass, a vase, the world is you pickle, so get creative. What I love most about this technique is that no two patterns are the same, it’s different every time and that’s why it’s good for a gift because each one is unique. If the pattern comes out a bit rubbish, or you don’t like it it’s removed with ease, with a cotton pad soaked in nail varnish remover!
YOU WILL NEED
DISPOSABLE TRAY OR OLD BOWL
Pour enough lukewarm water into your tray or bowl, something you can submerge your mug into. Add a few drops of the nail varnish of your choice, and swirl with a tooth pick to your desired pattern, work fast though because it dries quickly, and if you swipe your toothpick through it when its dried you’ll take the whole design away. So work quickly, but don’t over do it a couple of swirls should do the trick. Submerge your mug in the position that tickles your fancy, while it’s submerged grab your toothpick and catch the remaining polish off the surface of the water otherwise it’ll stick to the mug as you take it out, then it over layers and looks crap, sometimes you can rub it off if your quick, but it usually rubs it all off and the desgin doesn’t flow as well. Wait 10/15 minutes and paint your mug in acrylic varnish, I used matte because I love everything grey and matte, but if glossy is your thang, then you go for it! And your done, no idea if these are dishwasher safe, because I don’t have a dishwasher so if you want to do that, do it at your own risk!
